If you have to write something ASAP for your boss, don't panic. Spend half your available time "fast writing"--get all your ideas down on paper or screen. Then spend the second half molding the ideas into a more coherent form.
Artist's date at Greenspring
Snow over the weekend, snow forecast for later today, and again on Friday--what a Groundhog Day! Meanwhile, I am trying to keep the creative spirit alive by going through the book Walking in This World by Julia Cameron.
As those who have gone through the Cameron "brand" know (I know that sounds cynical, I do like and value her books, but they do have a certain way about them), she suggests a weekly Artist's Date to replenish the soul. An hour in nature, a fabric store, listening to music, just about anything. It's sad to say how hard it is to carve out that hour to do something creative....by myself.
But today, in between the snows, I went to Greenspring Gardens. The greenhouse smelled good. A few paths were unplowed for walking. Geese and a few ducks found the unfrozen parts of the ponds. These trees especially caught my fancy.
The "date" ended at Beanetics, a small coffee roaster/shop. My plan was to get a cup of coffee to go. Instead, with jazz playing, I sat and drank the coffee there, enjoying the fact that I was playing hookey.
